Ihsane Chetuan is a young Moroccan artist based in Tétouan. She works in the field of photography, video and installations. She recently graduated from National Institute of Fine Arts, Tétouan, Morocco.
As an artist, I am deeply curious about the world around me while trying to experiment my own existence in relation to myself, the other and society. It is true that we are not born with the idea of the self, and indeed it is built over time. But self-effacement in the social framework starts by activating a feeling that drives us to be referenced to others, and it is from this distinction that we build our identity.
Throughout my work, I have not sought to impose a reality, but to propose a questioning of what we may think to be. The whole of my work addresses the issue of disappearance, fragility and memory. Photography transforms the model into an actor of mise-en-scène, while video allows me to deploy a narration based on my identity between appearance and disappearance.
